(Pink News) Poland will swear in its first gay and transgender MPs today, following last month’s general election.
Anna Grodzka said she aimed to seek equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people.
The 57-year-old, who was elected an MP for Krakow, said she would make the Catholic country more accepting.
Ms Grodzka, a member of the Palikot Party, is thought to be the world’s only sitting transgender MP.
She did not come first in the poll but as the party’s top candidate for Krakow but won her seat under the proportional representation system.
Robert Biedron is Poland’s first gay MP, and is also a member of the Palikot party.
Palikot campaigned in favour of legalising abortion, gay marriage and marijuana use.
Poland has a strong political rhetoric both for and against gays. Last year the equality minister apparently outed a public figure on television.
