Kim Petras, began sex swap hormone treatment aged just 12 after persuading her parents she no longer wanted to be known as Tim.
Now the German teenager has overcome years of taunts and bullying to release her first CD after becoming a cult hit on MySpace and You Tube.
Kim, 16, said: “My music is most important to me at the moment. It’s the way I can best express myself.
“I know that because of my past people will always bring up the subject, I can’t get away from it.
“But I hope that one day I might be better known for my music than for my past.”
Model Kim – now also studying fashion design – began calling herself a girl when she was just two years old.
Her dad Lutz said: “I suppose it took me longer than my wife to accept it, but Kim is a very persuasive girl, she knows what she wants and how to get it.
“I am very proud of what she has achieved, how she has managed to get there and how she sticks to her dreams no matter how hard and painful they are to follow.”
Kim explained: “I wound up in the wrong body.”
“We had to accept her wishes, it was clear it was not just a phase,” added her father.
Last year Kim became a model for a nationwide German hair salon chain.
Director Giuseppe Pino Galanti said: “Kim fits perfectly with the image we want to portray. She is very pretty, and has a lot of style and personality, both of which are equally important.
“Our stylists produce work that is sassy, trendy and unique, just like Kim.”
Now Kim has been snapped up by top producer Fabian Görg after a song she wrote become a runaway hit on the internet.
Görg whose www.joyce-records.com label is producing Kim’s work said: “Her debut song ‘Fade Away’ which she wrote herself proves that she has got the talent to legitimate the internet hype which came up about her.
“You can imagine how many acts there are out there but when we heard Kim’s voice and some of her compositions we knew we had to sign her straight away.”
Kim’s MySpace page (www.myspace.com/kimilinlein) records more than 50,000 hits while a preview of the song has been played more than 20,000 times.
More than 73,000 fans and friends have so far visited her personal online blog ‘Kimperium’ http://kimperium.blogspot.com/ and her most popular You Tube video was watched 46,000 times.
